You are missed.

dadhikurangi

There are still days when I can’t believe you are gone.
Days when I still feel as though you are surely only a few hours drive away
Days that I feel like you must be working in your office, or out in the community, or in a meeting,
Out mowing the paddock or driving around with your dogs in the back of the truck…
Your crumpled dusty cap sitting lopsided on your head

Days when I feel like I could still pick up the phone for your advice
Or will only have to wait for the next holiday to see you, and hug you.
In those moments your absence from this realm seems absurd and profane
And my heart teeters on a ridge of sorrow and outrage…
So I take a big breath, and quietly close the door on the hall of tears
And take another step forward in an unfair world.
